RELEASE: BOARD VISITS 2000
HASKELL PRESERVATION AWARD WINNING HOME AND ANNOUNCES THE AVAILABLILITY OF
APPLICATIONS FOR THIS YEARS SELECTION
Members of the Board of Directors of the Mason County Historical Society visited the home of Don and Sharon Koehler at 209 E. State Street, Scottville on June 14th. The Koehler’s were awarded the 2000 Haskell Preservation Award by the Historical Society last November and a beautiful plaque was presented to them Thursday which will be attached to the home identifying it as the 2000 award winner.
Applications or nominations are being sought for the 2001 Haskell Preservation Award. The award will be made during the annual meeting of the Mason County Historical Society.
Any home or business owner who has made a considerable restoration effort is encouraged to fill out an application. Others knowing of a business or homeowner worthy of the award are encouraged to nominate the applicant. Information can be obtained by calling 843-4808.
The award was established by members of the Henry and Elizabeth Haskell family to promote an awareness and interest in Mason County’s architectural heritage.
The Award is organized and managed by the Mason County Historical Society, with the following goals and objectives:
1. To publicly recognize property owners who have made commitments of time and money to improve their homes and businesses in ways that are sympathetic with the historic values endeared by the Mason County Historical Society and Mason County as a whole.
2. To educate the public about the three distinct, but interrelated, approaches to the treatment of historic properties (during or prior to the Great Depression years): Preservation, Rehabilitation, and Restoration.
3. To encourage more property owners to improve their homes/businesses in ways that are sympathetic with historic values.
Interested persons may obtain an application or additional information by calling or writing the Mason County Historical Society at 843-4808, 1687 S. Lakeshore Drive, Ludington, Mi. 49431, or e-mail us at inf@historicwhitepinevillage.org.
